It begins (and is centered) in a near-future London which seems to have discovered for itself a near-perfect form of distributed democracy called The System - a place where public service is done like never-ending jury duty by all citizens, and all things are voted on all the time by everyone. ![]() Dick, Arthur Conan Doyle and William Gibson. Gnomon is a big, ambitious book that sometimes trips over its own bigness, but reads like some kind of game of literary telephone played by Philip K.
